Car AC Evaporator Factory

How does the AC system work in a car?

Mar 19, 2026

In sweltering summers or chilling winters, stable operation of car air conditioning is crucial for comfortable driving. But do you know how this system precisely regulates the interior temperature through a meticulous cycle? As a professional manufacturer of core components of car air conditioning, HBS take you through the workings of the car air conditioning system and demonstrate why choosing us can make your business more efficient and reliable.

Car Air Conditioning Cooling System Core Components and Cycle Principle

The car air conditioning cooling system operates through the coordinated work of four major components - compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator, forming a closed-loop for heat transfer:

  • Compression Process: The compressor compresses the low-temperature, low-pressure gaseous refrigerant (0°C, 0.15MPa) into high-temperature, high-pressure gas (70-80°C, 1.5MPa), providing power for subsequent heat dissipation.
  • Condensation Process: In the condenser, the high-temperature gaseous refrigerant exchanges heat with external air, condensing into medium-temperature liquid (1.0-1.2MPa) and releasing a significant amount of heat to the outside.
  • Expansion Process: The liquid refrigerant passes through the expansion valve for pressure reduction, resulting in a sudden temperature drop to -5°C, transforming into low-temperature, low-pressure wet vapor in readiness for evaporative heat absorption.
  •  Evaporation Process: The wet vapor absorbs heat from the interior air in the evaporator, vaporizing into low-temperature gas (0°C, 0.15MPa), re-entering the compressor after completing the refrigeration cycle.
  • Auxiliary Components Ensure System Stability: Components like the discharge buffer, desiccant filter, high and low-pressure relays prevent liquid strike, filter impurities, monitor pressure, ensuring safe system operation under adverse conditions.

Environmental-friendly Refrigerant Upgrade: R-134a Emerging as the Mainstream Choice

Traditional R-12 refrigerant, due to its chlorofluorocarbon content damaging the ozone layer, has been gradually phased out. The new eco-friendly refrigerant R-134a offers the following advantages:

Ozone-Friendly: Chlorine-free, complying with international environmental standards.

Safe and Reliable: Non-toxic, colorless, non-flammable, adapting to complex automotive conditions.

Compatibility: Requires dedicated refrigerant oil to prevent system corrosion or leaks.

Note: R-12 and R-134a should not be mixed to prevent serious consequences like hose corrosion, compressor damage, etc.
